SINGAPORE Polytechnic Maths Coaching

We provide independent online one-to-one coaching in mathematics and mathematics-based modules across all five Singapore polytechnics, namely:

  • Singapore Polytechnic;
  • Temasek Polytechnic;
  • Ngee Ann Polytechnic;
  • Nanyang Polytechnic; and
  • Republic Polytechnic

Our services include coaching engineering mathematics, quantitative methods, statistics, and computing-related mathematical modules. Coaching is aligned to each student’s specific diploma syllabus and assessment requirements, with a focus on targeted academic support and exam readiness.

Each programme is tailored to the individual student and may focus on a single module or a combination of mathematics-based modules. In all cases, a structured learning plan is developed to address specific areas of difficulty, strengthen core understanding, and build consistency and confidence over time.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Gresty Academy provides independent coaching and academic support for students studying mathematics and mathematics-based modules at Polytechnics in Singapore. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by Singapore Polytechnic (SP), Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), Temasek Polytechnic (TP), Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), Republic Polytechnic (RP), or any other educational institution or professional body. Our coaching is designed to supplement students’ own preparation for their respective examinations. As success in examinations depends primarily on individual student effort, discipline, revision and performance, Gresty Academy cannot and does not promise or guarantee any specific exam score, grade attainment or grade improvements.

Singapore Polytechnic Maths-Based Modules

Mathematics in the five Singapore polytechnics is delivered through diploma-specific modules rather than a single national syllabus. While module codes and sequencing vary across institutions, content typically falls into four main strands: Engineering Mathematics, Statistics, Quantitative Methods, and Computing Mathematics.

1. Engineering Mathematics (Year 1 Core Modules)

Engineering mathematics forms the foundation of most engineering diplomas.

Topics typically include:

  •  Algebraic manipulation and functions
  •  Trigonometry and identities
  •  Complex numbers (selected diplomas)
  •  Differentiation and integration (introductory level)
  •  Applications of calculus (optimisation, rates of change)
  •  Vectors (basic 2D and 3D applications)

Typical module structure:

  •  Engineering Mathematics 1 (foundations: algebra, functions, trigonometry)
  •  Engineering Mathematics 2 (calculus and applications)

2. Advanced Engineering Mathematics (Year 2 progression)

Topics typically include:

  •  Advanced differentiation and integration techniques
  •  Differential equations (first-order modelling)
  •  Parametric equations
  •  Vector geometry in 3D
  •  Further applications of calculus in engineering systems

3. Statistics and Data Analysis Modules

Common across engineering, business, and IT diplomas.

Topics typically include:

  •  Descriptive statistics (mean, variance, standard deviation)
  •  Probability theory and distributions
  •  Normal and binomial distributions
  •  Hypothesis testing and confidence intervals
  •  Correlation and regression analysis

Advanced topics (selected diplomas):

  •  Poisson distribution
  •  Chi-square tests
  •  Sampling distributions and estimation techniques

4. Quantitative Methods (Business and Applied Mathematics)

Topics typically include:

  •  Financial mathematics (interest, annuities, depreciation)
  •  Optimisation techniques
  •  Linear programming (graphical methods)
  •  Data modelling and interpretation
  •  Spreadsheet-based quantitative analysis

5. Computing and Discrete Mathematics (IT-related diplomas)

Topics typically include:

  •  Logic and Boolean algebra
  •  Sets, relations, and functions
  •  Graph theory fundamentals
  •  Counting principles and combinatorics
  •  Algorithmic thinking and complexity basics

6. Applied Mathematics Modules (Diploma-specific)

Some diplomas integrate applied mathematics into specialised modules such as:

  •  Engineering problem-solving modules
  •  Data analytics foundations
  •  Simulation and modelling modules
  •  Industry-based mathematical applications

Important Note on Structure

Unlike A-Level qualifications, Singapore polytechnic mathematics:

  •  is not centralised under a single syllabus
  •  varies by diploma and institution
  •  is assessed through a combination of coursework, tutorials, and examinations.

Our coaching is therefore adapted to the specific module structure and assessment format of each student’s diploma, advancing under a customised and tailored plan formulated between student and specialist coach during the free consultation.
