UPCAT Coaching
The UPCAT (University of the Philippines College Admission Test) is the most popular and well known test in the Philippines for students seeking to enter university. Most other college entrance tests in the Philippines (ACET, PUPCET, FEUCAT, USTET, DCAT etc) are similar to the UPCAT and we provide exam coaching in the science and maths elements of all of them.
The UPCAT itself consists of FOUR subtests whose scores are combined with the composite of final grades in Grades 8 to 11 to determine the admission score ("UPG").
Those subtests are:
- Language Proficiency (in English and Filipino);
- Reading Comprehension (in English and Filipino);
- Science; and
- Mathematics.
Here at Gresty Academy we specialise in coaching for the UPCAT Science subtest and the UPCAT Mathematics subtest (coaching is conducted in English only).
There is no doubt that the UPCAT is an exam where coaching can massively improve the students' chances of success. On the Gresty Academy YouTube Channel we have created a podcast just for UPCAT students. Entitled 'A Crash Course in UPCAT Must-Know Maths', it consists of hundreds of short teaser videos testing maths concepts which need to be understood in order to ace the UPCAT Mathematics subtest - new short videos are uploaded to the podcast nearly every day.
To be clear, far more preparation needs to be done by the student than simply watching the videos on the podcast, however they are a fantastic aide to the revision process and contain an abundance of must-know UPCAT maths and techniques. We should also note that what is and isn't tested on the UPCAT changes all the time, hence a handful of the videos in this podcast are on topics that are not on the current UPCAT Mathematics subtest 'syllabus', however they are still very useful in advancing mathematical knowledge and thinking.
Also on the Gresty Academy YouTube Channel we have a 'Challenging Maths Teasers' podcast, which also consists of hundreds of short videos testing maths concepts. Even though many of the topics covered in these teasers will certainly not be tested on the UPCAT Mathematics subtest, working through the teasers is great practice at advancing the mathematical brain and thinking in new ways, as well as picking up new mathematical techniques.
